"Just like people, there are times when we prejudge a book, only to be completely surprised by it once we read it. The Black Dragons was NOT a shallow “pirate” novel for young boys as the book cover first led me to think; instead it was about a very deep and special journey that two unlikely friends are forced to take when they are caught up in the politics of nations vying for control of the American Colonies and the Caribbean Islands. Although filled with action and surprising twists, the author also carefully wove into the story the values of loyalty and friendship in the face of hatred and prejudice and he displayed the beauty, power and value of a man’s character, something that seems to be a fading quality in today’s youth. The story of these men will encourage, challenge, and inspire you as you cheer for them, fear for them, and weep with them (not all of the tears are sad ones). It is a great book for all ages and all genders..."

"Loved it. Starts simple enough, but then the story picks up speed and you feel like you're on for the ride of your life in the lead characters back pocket. The story held closely to the historical genre it was in, lots of surprises, character development and visually colorful battles and interactions. I loved the friendships that were developed between the main characters. A fun book and a great read..."

"Great book! I must say I wasn't sure I would enjoy reading a historical fiction book about slavery, naval battles and capturing forts, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was the characters that sucked me into the book and had me reading and guessing their fate right down to the end. It is rare to find characters that hold to their values; showing honor, courage and compassion to one another and their enemies as these do. As a Media Coordinator at a middle school I highly recommend this book to young adults and up. I look forward to a sequel and reading more about those who sailed on "The Dragon"..."

“I started the book by recommendation from a friend, got so involved with the story and characters that I could not put it down until the end. At first I felt it might not be my type of book genre, but after reading it, I would recommend to any age group from senior to teenager. My favorite character was Bode, but each one was a pleasant surprise that I fell in love with. Even had a little romance tucked inside...”

“I received this book as a gift. I didn't expect to enjoy it as it's not my normal reading genre, but thought I'd give it a read... I couldn't put it down. The first few chapters started a little slowly as the characters and storyline developed, but I'm glad I kept reading! It was a joy to read, a fun ride to the end, I fell in love with the characters, loved the message inside of the story, and cried at the end (who would have thought for a adventure/military genre book). I would recommend it and it is appropriate for all audiences (young and old). Now I can't wait for the next book in the series that the author mentions...”
